Visiting Kensington Palace

Initially constructed all the way back in the 1600s, the palace was generally used by minor members of the royal family and was severely damaged during the Blitz in WWII. While it was being repaired in the years after, HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, lived there prior to his marriage to the then Princess Elizabeth.

Through the twentieth century, the palace was also lived in by Princess Margaret and the Earl of Snowdon, Prince Charles and Princess Diana and their sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.

What to see.

If you’re a royal fan, the staterooms on display at Kensington Palace are not to be missed.
Kensington Palace tours take you around the grand King’s State Apartments, which include the King’s Staircase, the Presence Chamber, the Privy Chamber and more – all spaces where the courtiers of the King and Queen of the day would meet.

The Queen’s State Apartments are also well worth visiting, where Queen Mary II lived in the late 1600s, entertaining friends and courtiers in the dining room, drawing room, gallery and even the closet.

The gardens are also a fantastic spot to soak in the sunshine. A tranquil place of calm away from the hubbub of the city, Kensington Gardens includes the Sunken Garden, which was replanted with white flowers in 2017 to memorialize the late Diana, Princess of Wales, and the Cradle Walk and Formal Gardens.
