Visiting Windsor Castle

Changing of the Guard
This is a very popular point of interest at Windsor Castle, similar to Buckingham Palace. If you’re keen to see the site on your next London visit, be sure to plan your trip between April and June when Changing of the Guard takes place daily at 11 am.

St George’s Chapel
St George’s is a large pull for visitors not only to Windsor Castle but to London. It is well known for its Gothic architecture and as the home of the tombs of ten sovereigns, including Henry VIII. Today, it is celebrated as one of the oldest operational churches, with a service each day.
Windsor Castle has also become more widely known as the venue for the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in St. George’s Chapel, in 2018.

Windsor Castle Tours and Tickets

Ticketing at Windsor Castle is standard, with concessions and walk-up availability.

If you plan to visit the castle during the summer months or on a weekend, it’s a good idea to buy tickets in advance. This means you’ll get to skip the queues at some of the busiest times of the year.

There are many short and half-day tours of just the castle, however, because Windsor Castle is in such close proximity to London, there are often tours which include both the site and other landmarks throughout the city.

Larger tours are likely to take a whole day but will give you a thorough look at the castle as well as the rest of the city.

When should I visit?
Windsor Castle is open to the public all year round. It is open every day, including Sunday, except for St George’s Chapel, which shuts on Sundays for religious reasons. Opening hours change throughout the year, so keep them in mind:
March – October: 10am – 5:15pm
November – February: 10am – 4:15pm
If you want to catch the Changing of the Guard, make sure you’re there between 11 am and 11:30 am.
