  Jorvik Viking Centre: Discover the Viking Age in the Heart of York

  Located in the historic city of York, the Jorvik Viking Centre offers a unique glimpse into the Viking Age and the daily life of the people who lived in this part of the world over a thousand years ago.

  The centre is built on the site of a Viking-age settlement that was discovered during archaeological excavations in the 1970s. Visitors can explore the reconstructed streets of Jorvik, complete with authentic sounds, smells, and sights, transporting them back in time to the era of the Vikings.

  The experience begins with a ride on a state-of-the-art time capsule that takes you on a journey through the Viking streets, with realistic representations of the people and animals that would have inhabited the area during that time.

  After the ride, visitors can explore the centre’s exhibitions and displays, which feature a range of artefacts from the Viking Age, including weapons, jewellery, and household items. The centre also has a team of expert guides on hand, who can provide fascinating insights into Viking culture and history.

  One of the highlights of the centre is the opportunity to see Viking-age skeletons that were discovered during the excavations. The skeletons have been carefully analysed by experts, and visitors can learn about the lives of the individuals and the possible causes of their deaths.
